The India Literacy Project Chennai team held a 2-day annual planning and review meeting in the month of May to assess the past year’s achievements & set strategic goals for 2024-2025. The focus was on introducing new initiatives & creating a detailed action plan to enhance ILP’s interventions.

Highlight of the meeting was the presence of corporate leaders from Verizon and UST, sharing their experience & valuable insights from their corporate journey.

ILP Founder Venki Venkatesh stressed the need to address key issues like child labor & school dropouts.

Asuri Lakshminarasimhan Rangarajan, CEO of ILP, highlighted ILP’s growth & its significant impact on first-generation learners. With ILP operating in both urban and rural areas, he observed that with the help of corporates, government school students are now beginning to have the same level of opportunity & resources as that of non-government schools.

Padmaja Sathyamoorthy, ILP US Chapter Head, highlighted the importance of social media presence and essential skills for students and the benefits of AI.

Gopinath P, Sr. Director & Head of HR at Verizon, highlighted the importance of hiring based on skills, effective communication, & passion. He celebrated the STEM project’s success, where 36 children secured jobs at Verizon. He emphasized bridging societal gaps, and focusing on smart classes, & science kits.

Mrs. Sasikala, Senior Leader at Verizon, noted Verizon’s dedication to enhancing education by emphasizing both academic performance & skill development. She also stressed the importance of discipline & goal-oriented speeches alongside science education.

Mr. Chandrasekaran Sundaresan, Vice President & Chennai Chapter Head at UST, discussed the evolution of mobile phones into essential tools & the dual nature of WhatsApp. Highlighting AI’s potential, he suggested its use to accommodate students’ varying learning speeds & stressed that AI will enhance, not replace, human capabilities.

Mr. T.K. Ramkumar, Advocate & Trustee of Seshadri Padma Memorial Charitable Trust, emphasized efficient fund utilization in social work. He proposed that every Rs. 1000 raised through fundraising should deliver Rs. 3000 worth of value to beneficiaries.

RAVI MANI, Knowledge Hub Manager at ILP, shared his 33 years of experience in the social sector, proudly reflecting on his 24-year journey as ILP’s 1st staff member.

The meeting concluded with a reinforced commitment to societal transformation and the pivotal role of education in shaping responsible citizens.
