The Covid pandemic has thrown the Teaching-learning process out of gear with schools shut indefinitely across the country. While governments and schools struggle to deal with the challenging situation, Team ILP, unfazed, got into direct action with a learning solution to enhance classroom engagement that would benefit teachers and students across the country! Especially in government schools where most of the children come from underprivileged communities.

Our mission to take the learning resources developed in house, to scale for wider reach and benefit the teacher and student community alike has met with success thanks to the Department of Education, Government of Karnataka! The first ever cache of digital content covering key subjects of Math, Science and Social science for grades 4th to 10th in English and Kannada, has been highly appreciated by the department, which has reviewed and certified it.

Consequently, in September 2019 the Karnataka State entered into a MoU with us for upload of the digital content to the National Portal, ‘Diksha’ of the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India.

What is unique about Our Digital Content?

    • First ever comprehensive content, for 3 key subjects, covering all chapters for grades 4th through 10th, and available in English and Kannada.
    • The content is aligned to the curriculum prescribed by National Council for Education Research and Training (NCERT), hence applicable country wide.
    • Open source, editable version, as PowerPoint, thereby customizable by teachers to suit their style of teaching.
    • Consequently, there is no dependency on ILP as ownership rests with Teachers.
    • The ease of use, through download of Diksha app to smart phone or laptop enables teachers to access the content for classroom teaching.
    • The deck for every chapter of every subject lends itself for teaching or revising purposes.
    • Simple language, easy style with activities, Q & As, links to carefully selected YouTube videos enable self-learning by students.
    • While most other resources on the portal are in the form Q & A, ILP’s content are in the form of PowerPoint (pdf version) that explains the concept and covers the entire chapter, along with experiments.
  • The Education department of Karnataka hitherto had no content to pre-load computers being provided to Higher Primary and High Schools (grades 8-10) as part of the Techno Assisted Learning Program (TALP). As on date 2000 schools have received over 30,000 computers preloaded with ILP digital content, and another 2000 schools will be covered in the coming year.
  • This in itself provides access to 250,000 students of classes 8-10.
  • Above all, this is ‘low cost no cost’ as the entire content development was designed and developed by Team ILP – volunteers and staff and reviewed by the state’s teacher experts!

ILP-Govt. Partnership – The Process

The nodal agency of the Education department collaborating with us is the Directorate of State Education Research and Training (DSERT) and the process involved:

  • Review of content – subject and chapter-wise, by the department’s teacher experts and approval prior upload.
  • Collaboration for developing 87 supporting science experiments videos, in both Kannada and English. The script, video preparation and voice over were done by Team ILP.
  • Upload by DSERT onto the Diksha Portal.
  • Owing to the department owning the process, our Logo is not highlighted. However, the portal credits the Attributions to ILP and Original author as ILP
  • Pre-loading the content to the computers supplied to schools under the TALP.

Status of Upload

  • As on September 2020, 280 lessons in Science and Social Science for classes 4th to 10th and all 87 experiment videos have been uploaded by DSERT and is online – www.diksha.gov.in
  • Math content is in principle approved but under review by DSERT and will be uploaded by January 2021.

Steps for Access

  • Teachers, students and any educator can download the Diksha portal app onto their smartphone or laptop.
  • Every Textbook has chapter wise QR codes, which when scanned takes one to the portal’s chapter related resources.
  • While presently there are around 8 resources available, our resources are the most comprehensive.
  • The portal accepts only pdf and video versions/formats. However, as we subscribe to Open sourcing all our resources, we have given the link for download of the PowerPoint version for teacher customisation.

Way forward

Our Mission is to reach out to Teachers and children in government schools across all states. Hence, work is underway for translation of content in Hindi, Marathi, Odiya, Tamil and Telugu.
