Epson helps transform 50 Schools with MDLS Program
When a technology leader in computer printers & information & imaging-related equipment EPSON INDIA PVT LTD. with its philosophy of bringing value and touching lives collaborates with the non-profit, India Literacy Project (ILP) that is at the forefront of transforming the education sector via innovative teaching practices, the impact is widespread.
Epson takes pride in transforming 50 schools of Tumakuru & Madhugiri educational districts into Multi-Dimensional Learning Spaces (MDLS), the flagship program of ILP.
As part of transforming schools into MDLS, these 50 schools are being equipped with digital classrooms for visual & experiential learning (along with the chalk & talk teaching methodology already in practice in schools).
Apart from digital classrooms, the schools also have been provided with:
Science labs
Child-friendly library with books in Kannada, English & bi-lingual
A digital classroom means a classroom equipped with projector, laptop, projector screen, speaker & ILP’s digital content mapped to syllabus for grades 4th -10th.
The science lab set-up consists of ILP’s lab in a box which allows students to experiment with 200+ concepts using 150 components that are easy to use, commonly used & mapped to concepts children learn between grade 5 &10 for physics, chemistry and biology.
The goal of the science lab is not just to simplify subject understanding, but also to increase scientific temper.
Child friendly library has the key objective of inculcating reading habits i.e. , providing a reading space that is child-friendly, books that are simple and engaging to read and books color coded based on the content complexity.
ILP’s MDLS also has other components like career guidance & ICT labs that are implemented while working with high school students.
This program was inaugurated by the hon’ble education minister of Karnataka, B. C. Nagesh along with Samba Moorthy President of EPSON INDIA PVT LTD. in Thimmalapur government senior primary school, Tipaturu taluk.
Mr. Nagesh was appreciative of the collaboration between corporates & non-profits in education sector who are pioneering innovative education & teaching practices in government schools across the state.
Mr. Moorthy spoke about corporate support as only a first step towards transformation and the bigger role was to be played by the teachers in maximizing the resources provided.
