Education is the soul of a society as it passes from one generation to another.
The most significant humans responsible for passing education down the generations are “girls & women”
With India Literacy Project’s motto of being a “Catalyst for 100% education in India”, ILP invests significant efforts in campaigning, and ensuring education of girl child is not a luxury, but a responsibility that society owes it to itself.
India Literacy Project has been effectively continuing a program (that was earlier run by the government), “Kishori (Hindi word which means a teenager), for girls aged 13-19 years.
As part of the program, girls are educated about the changes they undergo physically due to hormones in their rapid growth years.
Girls along with their parents are also made aware of the physical and mental problems arising due to child marriages.
Appropriate intervention as part of the program has helped prevent multiple child marriages
Parents are also continuously counselled about the importance of educating their girl child and in extreme cases, they are referred to Child Welfare Committee (CWC) – Child Welfare Committee – Wikipedia for intervention, counselling and rehabilitation.
