India Literacy Project is proud of its Facilitators and Vidya Saathis who always go above and beyond their call of duty.
The Vidya Saathis and Facilitators are working with the state department of Health for Mass Drug Administration campaign as part of Filaria Nirakaran Avijhan program to eliminate Lymphatic Filariasis in Keonjhar district of Orissa, which reports the maximum cases.
The Vidya Saathis and Facilitators have taken up the responsibility to ensure all the children are administered preventive medicine in 50 Anganwadi Centers and 36 Village Learning Centers under their purview with the help of Accredited Social Health Activist (ASHA) and Auxiliary Nurse Midwife (ANM), a village-level female health worker.
The campaign entailed creating awareness amongst school students and their parents and going door-to-door to administer medicines.
Vidya Saathis (i. e. , friends for education) are village level volunteers that ILP partners actively recruit and train. Vidya Saathis are responsible for the day-to-day management of the VLCs, and to teach children to improve their Foundational Literacy and Numeracy (FLN).
India Literacy Project not only ensures the foundational learning base is strong but also health care needs are taken care of by collaborating with the local state governments.
